Ford has broken the internet in ways only a rockstar or reality star can. They created a special edition of the 2015 Mustang GT designed specifically to pay homage to space flight.
This is not the first time Ford has done such a thing, they have done it 8 years in a row and their aviation themed versions are designed to encourage aviation especially with young lads like myself. Remember the year they did the Shelby to celebrate the SR-71 Black Bird?
This thing still gives me chills:
According to Ford:
“The Apollo program delivered astonishing innovations in technology and achieved a national goal of landing the first human on the moon,” said Edsel B. Ford II, a member of the Ford board of directors. The entire program was extraordinary — one of our nation’s greatest technological achievements. With this year’s stunning Apollo Edition Mustang, we salute that spirit of American ingenuity with the quintessential American automobile — Ford Mustang,” Ford said. The car is set to be auctioned off and over 1000 aviation enthusiasts plan to attend the auction with many more having their eyes set on claiming the iconic car.
Car and Driver had a pretty nifty description for the car:
Admittedly, special-edition Mustangs can run toward the cheesy side, and this one is no different: The insignia that served a purely functional purpose on the Apollo rockets looks a little costume-y when draped across the flanks of the Ford. But there’s a purpose here—and a bit of a Ford tradition.
Yea – we think its cool too!
The Apollo Mustang has 627 horsepower and 540 pound torque, carbon fiber front spitter, rear diffusers and other pretty things that make it a total prize. Check out some of the pictures of the new Mustang and as usual let us know what you think.
