There’s nothing better to get the blood boiling than a good rip in an off-road vehicle. It’s an adrenaline rush and a great way to pass a Sunday afternoon.
Hopefully, you’re not afraid of getting a little muddy though, because this isn’t a past time for the squeamish. You can always try off-roading in your smart car but I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s probably better to stick to vehicles that are designed to handle the kind of abuse that an off-road vehicle is put through. Here are the five Best Street legal off-road vehicles.
Land Rover Range Rover
Land Rover has been a familiar sight in the off-road vehicle industry for decades and it’s still going strong. Its current model has excellent terrain response and even features an automatic button that can optimize the vehicles terrain response depending upon the surface you’re driving upon.
You can choose from several modes yourself or let the vehicle decide for you. This vehicle also has automatic hill descent control which makes it easier when you’re going down hills. With great ground clearance and all these other tools we’ve mentioned the Land Rover Range Rover remains one of the best off-road vehicles on the market.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
When it comes to off-road vehicles the Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the oldest and most reliable North American vehicles in this category.
The current version features a supercharged 6.2L V8 engine with up to 707 hp – that’s a lot of muscle for climbing hills. When you combine that with exhilarating acceleration and impressive handling what you end up with is a vehicle that’s built to handle any terrain.
Nissan Frontier
Nissan’s Frontier has been a favorite of off-roaders since the 80s. It’s come a long way since those early days and its current model features a powerful 4WD system and Bilstein shocks to help it climb the most challenging hills. If you find yourself stuck and you need to backup there’s also a rearview camera to assist you.
With a 4.0 V-6 261 hp engine this vehicle was built for off-roading. It also has decent control technology along with high ground clearance that makes it a great ride for any off-road experience.
Ram 1500 Rebel
Ram trucks have always been associated with power and off-road capabilities. The current version of the Ram 1500 Rebel is no exception.
New for 2020 this truck features 4 x 4 technology, a 5.7 L V-8 engine, or optional EcoDiesel V-6 powertrain. An impressive rear suspension that uses standard coil springs or optional air springs to help you in any tough off-road conditions. Its Rebel air suspension also gives it additional clearance for climbing those challenging and rocky hills. They call this one Ram tough for a reason.
Toyota 4Runner
I’ve saved my favorite in this category for last. The Toyota 4Runner is a legend in the off-road vehicle category and while they have upgraded this vehicle it remains true to its roots.
This is one badass machine with a V-6 engine and 270 hp. Its part-time four-wheel-drive system is assisted by Toyotas patented A-TRAC traction control system and downhill assist control.
When you combine this with its four-link rear axle and coil-spring suspension you get a vehicle that can handle the roughest terrain. The Toyota 4Runner can go pretty much anywhere that a vehicle can drive.
Final Thoughts
Off-roading is one of the most exciting and breathtaking extracurricular activities you’ll ever be involved in and if you do it in one of the vehicles we’ve mentioned above you’re bound to have a great experience.
All of these vehicles are built to handle the roughest terrain and they do it without much trouble. If you’re lucky enough to own one of these vehicles I sure hope you’re putting it to good use!
