Off-road aftermarket parts retailer, ExtremeTerrain (XT) releases a video buyer’s guide to help Wrangler owners shop for tops.

Hosted by XT’s Merideth Evasew, the video highlights 3 kinds of hardtops and 4 types of soft tops. Each top is shown installed on XT’s jeeps with availability for all generations on XT’s product pages.

Choosing Hard Tops

The video begins with Merideth’s recommendations when shopping hardtops. She first covers the one-piece hard top, where the whole top is just one piece and it doesn’t have any removable panels in the front, like a factory hard top.

She recommends the design for Wrangler owners who want a hard top with no hassle and don’t need the bells-and-whistle of the other types of hard top. It’s basically simpler to use and more cost-effective than the other hard tops.

The two-piece design is usually split into two sections. The front panel is removable so you can enjoy a more open-air driving experience. It’s more flexible than the one-piece. It also has more options, like having a sunroof, or a fastback/slant option for a more aggressive look in addition to improved aerodynamics and handling.

The fastback option also helps to improve your mpg along with your handling whether you’re driving on the road or even off-road. The only drawback with the fastback option is that cargo space becomes limited because of the shape.

Soft Tops

Moving on to choosing the best soft top, the selection is varied with everything from a complete replacement top to a bikini top or brief top.

Merideth starts by checking out the complete replacement top. It’s a good choice for someone already with a soft top, but which might have damaged or broken hardware.

The replacement top comes with all the required hardware from the frame system to the door surrounds. In terms of styling, complete replacement soft tops come in two main options: the square back look and the fast back.

Next, Merideth takes a look at the replacement factory top, which is a good refresh to replace an ageing or weathered soft top. She also looks at the mesh top, which offers protection from UV rays while your complete top is off your Jeep.

That said, if you’re looking for a little more protection, the bikini top or brief top might be right up your alley. This is not a replacement top or a complete top, but it offers a layer of protection while your full top is off your Wrangler.

Making The Right Purchase

Thanks to Merideth’s detailed breakdown of each of the hardtop and soft top options, viewers can now feel confident while navigating XT’s product pages. After all, they now have the necessary know-how to make an informed purchase.

XT’s new Jeep Tops video clarifies what to look for when shopping for an aftermarket hardtop or soft top. The video is part of XT’s continuing efforts to educate their customers and help them make a purchase they will be satisfied with.

Wrangler owners and enthusiasts are invited to check out the new How to Shop Tops video and subscribe to XT’s YouTube channel to stay in-the-know when new videos are released.
