I met Al Erickson while touring the Classic Car Collection Museum in Kearney, Nebraska. Al is one of the volunteers at the museum, and talk about a cool job, all day long he’s surrounded by over 200 amazing vehicles on display. I spotted Al’s 1969 Dodge Coronet 440 when I pulled into the parking lot.
What really grabbed my attention was the color combination. The T7 Dark Bronze Metallic is a color that’s seldom seen, especially on the Coronet 440, and the full vinyl top option made for a very striking color combination.
The wheels on Al’s car are really unique, they were a modern take on the Dodge Rallye Wheel. These wheels with the chrome side trim really accented the overall classic performance look of the 1969 Dodge Coronet 440.
The Stance on this Coronet is spot on for a 60’s muscle car the tires fill up the wheel wells perfectly. The chrome exhaust tips finish off this Coronet 440 with that true Mopar look, and it looks awesome at any angle.
Al said that he had purchased the Dodge exactly 1 year ago, from a guy in North Dakota whose family had owned the car for over 15 years. When he saw it at the Kearney Cruise Night, he had to have it and made the deal. While he has done some minor touch ups to it, the car is just the way Al purchased it.
Under the hood resides the original 318 engine, the only modifications, that had been made was the previous owner had put on an aluminum intake manifold and an Edelbrock Carburetor. Al still has the original 2-Barrel Intake Manifold and Carburetor, if he should ever want to put it back on. When Al fired it up, it had that perfect traditional Mopar sound, that is so unique to Mopar cars.
Everything works perfectly, even the original A/C blows nice and cold, that is a rarity with a lot of original cars these days.
The interior is in immaculate condition, just the way it came from the Factory, except for the speakers that the previous owner had put in the door panels. Al has plans to get new ones to cure that. I knew this had to be a low mileage car. The odometer read 15,022 miles, and Al confirmed it is the original mileage. I want to Thank Al for sharing this great car with me.
